The Ark Shelter on West Kilgore
The Ark Shelter will remain open during the Coronavirus crisis. The Ark provides a variety of services to run away, throw away, and homeless youth in crisis, as well as their families. Services are provided at the shelter, in the home, and in communities across southwest Michigan and are tailored to meet the needs of each youth and family. If you are in crisis (or know a youth ages 10-22 who is), please contact the Ark at 381-9800. Donations are still being accepted and are needed. All donations should be dropped off at the Ark Shelter, 990 W. Kilgore, Kalamazoo. (To avoid any personal contact, you can leave your donations inside the main door off Duke Street).
Caring Network
The Caring Network Office is closed to visitors, but if you are in need of emergency assistance, please call the main office at 381-9800. Staff will be answering this phone during normal business hours. Most importantly, VIRTUAL case management and mental health services will be available by appointment via cellphone, or other means (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.). Please contact 381-9800 and confirm your correct contact information with the receptionist.
Gryphon Place
Gryphon Place offices are closed until May 4th, but they are answering phone calls 24/7. They are the leading agency for suicide prevention in the area and offer several suicide-prevention resources, including the 24/7 helpline, The Gatekeeper Program, and a survivors of suicide loss support group. Gryphon Place is part of the statewide 2-1-1 information & referral system, which connects people to a variety of resources, including housing or utility payment assistance. They are also the local volunteer center for Kalamazoo and the Community Dispute Resolution Services Center for Kalamazoo, Barry, and Calhoun counties. They offer mediations on a sliding fee scale and a Restorative Practices program in schools as an alternative to punitive discipline, with a focus on keeping students in the classroom. Senior Services of Southwest Michigan
Senior Services of Southwest Michigan is considered an essential service during the 'Stay Safe, Stay Home' mandate. Although their physical doors will be closed to the public, their employees and volunteers will still be servicing clients in light of the shutdown. Please call 382-0515 for assistance.
