The St. Catherine’s Migrant Ministry program was established in 1999. Typically in July and August, volunteers gather once a week in the evening to visit one of the 300 migrant camps in the Diocese of Kalamazoo to bring hope to farmworker families, to provide household necessities, and to entertain the children, allowing the parents a short break after their long day in the fields. Volunteers play games and sports and do arts and crafts with the kids and provide a light snack before saying our good-byes.
In June, parishioners can donate household supplies for family ‘welcome bags’ as well as snacks and beverages for the kids.
Lead volunteers include Angelica Valdes and daughter Alexa, Mary Spruit, Rachel Ogrin (contact information below), Karen Parker and Colleen Semler (not pictured).
