Deacon Brian and his wife Margaret made a trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin over the June 8th weekend to visit our beloved Fr. Bill Jacobs and Deacon’s sister who lives in the Green Bay area. On Saturday, Deacon and Margaret met Father Bill for lunch followed by a tour of his apartment and environs. His apartment is decorated similarly to the one he had in Portage; lots of religious art, family photos and of course Christmas decorations including a trimmed Christmas tree! Father arises daily around 5:30 am after which he celebrates Holy Mass in his room. He leads recitation of the Rosary in the activity room 3-4 times a week. He and some other residents enjoy doing religious themed, 1000-piece puzzles; which, Fr. Bill has sealed and framed for display in his room and in the hallway outside his room. He keeps in shape by riding an exercise bicycle twice a day.
On Sunday, Deacon and Margaret picked up Father Bill for a trip to Culver’s for his favorite Turtle Sundae. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the “Our Lady of Champion” Marian Shrine, the site of the only recognized Apparition of Mary in the United States. The Shrine is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the Green Bay area and is located only 5 miles from the Jacob Homestead and about 15 miles from Fr. Bill’s apartment. Father Bill is glad he made the move the Green Bay to be near his only surviving sibling Anne, but he misses his Portage and Diocese of Kalamazoo friends dearly. You can send him a card at OAK PARK PLACE, 421 ERIE ROAD, GREEN BAY, WI 54311
