Dear Parishioners, As we listen to the readings for this Third Sunday of Lent, the reading from Exodus tells us about Moses and his encounter with the burning bush. It’s a very powerful image for us to imagine Moses finding this and wondering why the bush doesn’t burn, and then discovering that it’s the way God is choosing to talk with him. Some years ago, I found a beautiful rendition of this image in art, and I have moved that picture with me to all the parishes I have been in over my years of priesthood. I like looking at it because it reminds me that we never know where or how we are going to encounter God. We can say the same thing about these days of Lent. We are almost at the halfway point of our Lenten season. Where have you encountered God in these past three weeks? In reading Scripture? In Prayer? In the Sacraments? Have you found God in an unexpected place or an unexpected encounter? Sometimes God really needs to catch our attention with a burning bush or sometimes He catches our attention in a much quieter way. Regardless of how God catches our attention, we certainly can encounter Him during this holy time. Thanks for reading! Fr. Mark
