Ready or not, Lent has begun! This 1st Sunday of Lent continues our journey to the holiest week of the year and to our upcoming celebration of Easter on April 20th. Lent and Easter are much later this year than in the past several years. In fact, the latest date that we celebrate Easter is the 25th of April (but that won’t happen again until 2038). It truly will be Spring when we arrive at Easter Sunday this year (and hopefully it won’t be snowing either).
I will be out of the office and the parish this coming week attending the Lenten Priest Retreat that the Diocese offers. After this past year of the tornado and many, many months of rebuilding the complex, it will be nice to have several days to get away and pray!
Please make sure that you keep up on the Lenten schedule that we previously published. The Kalamazoo area Lenten Penance services start next week. Mark your calendars for our parish penance service that will be on March 19th at 6:30 PM. Otherwise, confessions continue to be offered every Saturday from 11 AM to Noon here in the GLP room (off Trinity hallway) and also in Trinity Chapel.
As we find ourselves in Lent, please also pray for our Catechumens and Candidates who are seeking to become Catholic at the Easter Vigil this year. They will be joining the Bishop at the Cathedral this Sunday afternoon for the Rite of Election as they continue their journey to the Easter Sacraments.
