The Rosary is a meditation on the greatest love story ever known, the life of Christ. When we pray each decade, we are “in communion” with our Blessed Mother in prayer who is the “perfect pray-er” (CCC 2679, 2682). Mary “shows us the way” to her son, Jesus Christ (CCC 2674). (Source: The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) ). Pope John Paul II even wrote an apostolic letter on the Rosary, "Rosarium Virginis Mariae"!
While it is not mandatory to pray the Rosary, the Church recognizes the Rosary as a powerful prayer with tremendous spiritual benefits. It is a devotion - a popular tradition among the faithful. Next time you pray the Rosary, use the Hail Marys in each decade as an opportunity to focus your mind, heart, and soul on each mystery of salvation history. Unite your prayer to our Blessed Mother who hears your petitions and always humbly points us to her Son.
