‘Laudato Si’
In 2015, Pope Francis shared an encyclical “On Care for Our Common Home” (Laudato Si).” In this document, he discussed the Holy Spirit moving all Catholics to awake to the openness of heart that embraces the interconnectedness of sociopolitical, economic and cultural movements on behalf of human dignity and flourishing environmental systems. A growing sense of universal belonging and personal desire to the common good flows from this experience.
Across the United States, Catholics are implementing the message of Pope Francis, looking for opportunities for ecological partnerships and actions. For examples of parishes taking specific actions to implement the message of Pope Francis’ encyclical please see the “Catholics around the country bring ‘Laudato Si’ to Life” article in the December 2021 issue of U.S. Catholic (Vol. 86. No. 12, pages 30-34).
Meet your contributor:
My name is Sandy Jones and my
husband and I recently moved from North Carolina to Michigan. I recently joined St. Catherine’s parish. I’m an RN who retired in 2015 after 41 years of practice. At my prior parish, St. Brendan’s, I was on a Health and Wellness Committee. One of our most successful projects was providing
articles for the bulletin and website on topics of interest to our parishioners. I look forward to writing these articles for you!
