Meet the Thomasma Family, Jonathan, Lisa, David (6) and Daniel (3)! Faith literally brought these two together; Lisa and Jonathan first met at a Catholic church in Changchun, China. The couple lived in Austin, TX while Jonathan finished graduate school at UT Austin, before moving to Portage about seven years ago. David attends Kindergarten at St. Monica School, and he loves art, biking and tennis. Daniel is in preschool at Shamrock Montessori and loves everything his older brother does and will strike up a conversation with anyone he meets! Jonathan loves to spend his time serving others; this is a very big calling in his heart. Lisa loves to take the kids on different outings and enjoys being a mother of two little boys. Jonathan serves as a membership recruit for the Knights of Columbus Council , he is a catechist, and he also attends Catholic Men Fellowship on Monday nights. Lisa serves as one of the leaders for MOPS and she also organizes playdates for MOPS members, and is also part of the Hospitality Ministry. Lisa and Jonathan understand that attending Mass and volunteering with young children is never easy and it can take double or triple the effort! But young families have to be encouraged to try. Lisa had great words of advice for young families that want to be active in the parish but feel they don't have the time to give, just start small! "When we give, we always receive more. You may not see a visible reward immediately, but it shall come. It has happened to me recently that someone came to me and asked for help at a local establishment outside church because she recognized my family from attending Sunday Mass. It was a small thing for my family to do, but it has reassured us that we are making impact in our community". Thank you, Thomasma Family, for all you do for the parish!
